Badges You Can Get Right Now

Nitro Subscriber Badge

Discord Nitro Badge

The Nitro badge appears on your profile as long as you have an active Discord Nitro subscription. It works with any Nitro plan — Nitro Basic and full Nitro both qualify.

How to get it:

  1. Open Discord and go to User Settings
  2. Click Nitro in the left sidebar
  3. Choose a plan: Nitro Basic ($2.99/month or $29.99/year) or Nitro ($9.99/month or $99.99/year)
  4. Complete the purchase — the badge appears on your profile immediately

Hovering over the badge shows your subscription start date. The badge disappears the moment your subscription ends or lapses, so it only appears while you're actively paying.

Quick comparison: Nitro Basic unlocks custom emoji everywhere, a 50 MB upload limit, and the badge. Full Nitro adds 500 MB uploads, 4K/60fps streaming, two free Server Boosts, and expanded profile customization. For the badge alone, Basic is sufficient.

Server Booster Badge

Discord Server Booster Badge

When you boost a Discord server, you receive a pink gem badge that evolves visually over time. The longer you continuously boost, the more elaborate the badge becomes.

How to get it:

  1. Open a server you want to boost
  2. Click the server name at the top and select Server Boost
  3. Purchase a boost (included free if you have full Nitro, which comes with 2 boosts)

The badge shows your total boosting duration when hovered. If you stop boosting, the badge resets to its lowest tier — there's no way to "pause" your streak. Full Nitro subscribers get two free boosts included, making this the easiest way to maintain the badge.

HypeSquad House Badges (Bravery, Brilliance, Balance)

Discord HypeSquad House of Bravery Badge Discord HypeSquad House of Brilliance Badge Discord HypeSquad House of Balance Badge

HypeSquad is Discord's community program split into three houses, similar to Hogwarts sorting. Each house has its own badge color and personality type.

How to get it:

  1. Go to User Settings > HypeSquad
  2. Take the 5-question personality quiz
  3. You'll be sorted into one of three houses based on your answers

Which answers lead to which house:

  • House of Bravery (purple) — Pick confident, bold, and optimistic answers
  • House of Brilliance (orange) — Pick patient, improvement-focused, and thoughtful answers
  • House of Balance (green) — Pick compromising, moderate, and sharing-oriented answers

You can retake the quiz anytime in User Settings to switch houses. This is one of the easiest free badges to earn — it takes less than a minute.

Discord Quests Badge

Discord Quests are time-limited activities, usually tied to game promotions, where you complete a task (like streaming a specific game for a set amount of time) to earn rewards. Completing any Quest earns you the Discord Quests badge permanently.

How to get it:

  1. Check the Gift Inventory or Quests section in Discord for available quests
  2. Accept a quest and follow its instructions (typically: play or stream a specific game for 15-30 minutes)
  3. Once completed, claim your reward — the Quests badge is added to your profile automatically

The badge stays on your profile permanently even after the quest ends. New quests appear regularly, so if none are available right now, check back soon. You only need to complete one quest to get the badge.

Orbs Apprentice Badge

Introduced in July 2025, Discord Orbs are a virtual currency you earn by completing Quests. The Orbs Apprentice badge is purchased from the Discord Shop using these Orbs.

How to get it:

  1. Complete Discord Quests to earn Orbs (most quests award ~700 Orbs; there's also an intro video quest worth 150 Orbs)
  2. Open the Shop in Discord
  3. Switch to the Orbs Exclusives tab
  4. Find the Orbs Apprentice Badge and click Claim (costs 120 Orbs)

Once claimed, this badge stays on your profile permanently and cannot be removed or hidden. Since a single introductory video quest gives 150 Orbs, you can technically earn this badge in under two minutes.

Bug Hunter Badge (Silver & Gold)

Discord Bug Hunter Badge

Discord awards Bug Hunter badges to users who actively report bugs and help improve the platform. There are two tiers:

  • Silver (Green) — For users who report valid bugs through the Discord Testers program
  • Gold — For users with a track record of multiple significant bug reports and advanced bug hunting

How to get it:

  1. Join the Discord Testers Server
  2. Read the requirements and guidelines posted in the server
  3. Find and report valid bugs following their submission format
  4. If your bug report is accepted, you'll receive the Silver Bug Hunter badge

This isn't something you can get in a few minutes. Bug reports need to be genuine, reproducible, and well-documented. The Gold tier requires consistent, high-quality contributions over time. It's one of the most respected badges in the Discord community.

New Server Member Badge

Discord New Server Member Badge

Every time you join a new server, a small badge appears next to your name displaying "I'm new here, say hi!" This badge is completely automatic — you don't need to do anything to earn it.

The badge disappears after one week of being in the server. It only appears within that specific server's member list, not on your global profile. You'll get this badge each time you join any new server.

Server Owner (Crown) Badge

Discord Server Owner Crown Badge

A small crown icon appears next to the server creator's name in the member list. It helps other members identify who owns and administrates the server.

How to get it: Create a server. The crown appears automatically. If you transfer ownership, the crown moves to the new owner.

Server owners can disable the crown in server settings if they prefer it hidden. Like the New Server Member badge, this only shows within the specific server — it's not a profile badge.

Discord Staff Badge

Discord Staff Badge

This badge is exclusive to Discord employees. It's displayed on their profiles to help users identify official staff members and avoid impersonation. There is no way to earn this badge without being hired by Discord. The badge is removed when an employee leaves the company.

Recently Removed Badges (2025)

Discord removed two previously popular badges in December 2025. If you earned them before the removal date, they're gone from your profile — Discord removed them from all accounts.

Active Developer Badge — Removed December 5, 2025

Discord Active Developer Badge (Removed)

Originally introduced in 2022 to encourage bot developers to adopt Discord's slash command system. Developers with at least one active application that received a command in the last 30 days could claim it through the Developer Portal.

Why it was removed: Discord stated the badge generated a high volume of support tickets without providing real benefits to developers. It was the first non-event badge to be fully removed from every profile on the platform.

This badge no longer exists on any profile, even for users who previously earned it.

Legacy Username Badge — Removed December 6, 2025

When Discord switched from the old username system (with discriminators like #0000) to unique usernames in 2023, users who updated their username received an "Originally Known As" badge showing their old tag. This badge could be toggled on and off in user settings.

On December 6, 2025, Discord removed this badge from all profiles permanently. Even users who had it can no longer display it.

Legacy Badges (No Longer Obtainable)

These badges still appear on the profiles of users who earned them, but there's no way to get them anymore.

Discord Partner Badge

Discord Partner Badge

The Partner badge was awarded to owners of servers that met Discord's partnership criteria — typically large, active communities with strong engagement. Partners received benefits including free Nitro, Level 3 server boosting, priority support, and exclusive features.

Current status: Discord paused the Partner Program for new applications in October 2023. As of early 2026, the program remains effectively closed. Existing partners retain their badges and perks, but no new partnerships are being accepted. Whether the program will reopen remains unclear.

Communities that previously qualified included large subreddits (8,000+ followers), Twitch/YouTube streamers, and established content creator communities.

HypeSquad Events Badge

Discord HypeSquad Events Badge

This badge was awarded to users who attended or organized official Discord events. It's separate from the HypeSquad House badges (which you can still get via the quiz). Discord has significantly reduced the number of in-person events it organizes, making this badge extremely rare to encounter and nearly impossible to earn now.

Moderator Programs Alumni Badge

Discord Moderator Programs Alumni Badge

Originally called the "Certified Discord Moderator" badge, this was awarded to users who passed the Discord Moderator Academy exam and were active in Discord's moderation community for at least three months. The exam was suspended before December 2022, and the badge was renamed to Moderator Programs Alumni to honor those who earned it. It cannot be earned anymore.

Early Supporter Badge

Discord Early Supporter Badge

When Discord launched the $10/month Nitro tier alongside the original $5/month plan, everyone who had subscribed to Nitro before October 10, 2018 received this badge as a thank-you. It's one of the most recognizable legacy badges, and there's no way to earn it — you either had Nitro before that date or you didn't.

Early Verified Bot Developer Badge

Discord Early Verified Bot Developer Badge

Awarded to users who had a verified bot on 75+ servers before Discord stopped granting this badge in late 2020. The badge remains on profiles of those who earned it and is considered one of the more prestigious legacy badges, since it required genuine development work and community adoption.

Bot-Only Badges

These badges appear on bot and application profiles, not on regular user accounts.

  • Supports Commands — Displayed on bots that support slash commands. Disappears if the bot has no active slash commands registered.
  • Verified App — Shown on bots that Discord has verified, typically after reaching a threshold of servers.
  • Premium App — Appears on a bot's premium instance, visible only on servers with an active premium subscription to that bot.
  • AutoMod — Awarded to applications with 100 or more active AutoMod rules across servers.

How to Check Your Badges

To see which badges you currently have:

  1. Click your profile picture in the bottom-left corner of Discord
  2. Select Profile — your badges appear at the top of your profile card
  3. Hover over any badge to see its name and additional details (like subscription dates)

Badges are displayed in a set hierarchical order determined by Discord — you can't rearrange them. There's no limit to how many badges you can have stacked on your profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the easiest Discord badge to get for free?

The HypeSquad House badge. It takes about 30 seconds — just go to User Settings, click HypeSquad, answer 5 quick questions, and you're sorted into a house with a badge. The Orbs Apprentice badge is almost as easy: watch a short intro video to earn 150 Orbs, then buy the badge from the Shop for 120 Orbs.

What's the rarest Discord badge?

The Discord Staff badge (for obvious reasons — you need to work at Discord). Among non-employee badges, the Early Supporter badge is probably the most exclusive, since it required a Nitro subscription before October 2018 and can never be earned again.

Can I buy Discord badges?

Not directly. The Nitro badge requires a subscription ($2.99-$9.99/month), and the Orbs Apprentice badge costs 120 Orbs (which you earn for free through Quests). No badge can be purchased with real money alone without meeting some kind of requirement.

Why did my Active Developer badge disappear?

Discord removed the Active Developer badge from all profiles on December 5, 2025. This wasn't a bug — the badge was permanently discontinued. Even users who maintained active applications lost the badge.

Can I transfer badges between accounts?

No. Discord badges are permanently tied to the account that earned them. They cannot be moved, gifted, or transferred.

Wrapping Up

Discord's badge system has gone through significant changes recently — the Active Developer and Legacy Username badges were both removed in December 2025, while new badges like Discord Quests and Orbs Apprentice were introduced in mid-2025. The free badges (HypeSquad, Quests, Orbs Apprentice) are the easiest starting points, while Bug Hunter and the legacy badges represent the platform's most prestigious achievements.
